The Holyrood Community Greenspace Project is Up and Running!
We intend to revitalize our playground and surrounding green space or to make it a more vibrant, interactive space for people of all ages and abilities. After nearly three years of planning and meetings, the Holyrood Community Greenspace project team received special recognition from the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues for the development of our concept drawing. Our site will be updated with the program statement, drawing, meeting minutes and some inspiring photos soon.
The Holyrood community greenspace includes Holyrood Elementary School, the South East Edmonton Seniors Association, and the Holyrood Community League which is home to the Holyrood Afterschool Care Program. A long-term care facility and affordable cottages face this space. People from nearby group homes would like to enjoy the space too if they can easliy access the area and are made to feel welcome. It is a natural gathering point for our diverse community.
This project evolved from a small, naturescape project Holyrood students envisioned then planted in June 2006 at the entrance to our school. Community support for this first demonstration project was outstanding. The Evergreen Foundation assisted us throughout this project to help our students reconnect with nature and also to build community.
We now have a site development concept for the space. To view the concept, please click on the Site Development Concept.

Tired of being in two places at once?
The Spring Shack Program will run again Monday to Thursdays parallel to the soccer season so parents can let their non-soccer playing children frolic in the park under the supervision of playground leaders. They then get to focus on just one kid for the duration of the game.
