75 STREET and TRUCK TRAFFIC

January 25th, 2012

The City of Edmonton’s Transportation Sub-Committee will be deciding whether or not to open 75th Street between 90th and 98th Avenue to large truck traffic. In the master transportation plan, 75th Street is supposed to be transformed into an inner ring road, complete with the required infrastructure elements in place.  What might be a concern at the moment is that the City may open 75th Street to truck traffic without consideration for traffic congestion, safety, access and noise.

From the Involving Edmonton Public Plan the decision being made is:

City Counsel will consider a proposal to designate 75th Street from 90th Avenue to 98th Avenue as a truck route.  Council would like to understand what community concerns exist and potential short and long term mitigation strategies are available, and whether to pursue additional mitigation strategies as part of the truck route designation change.

The City’s Involving Edmonton Public Plan is (tentatively) targeting a community workshop the week of February 20th, and an information session the week of March 12.  Please watch the community sign and your e-mail if you are on the Holyrood Community League mailing list.  If you would like to be on the list, please e-mail communications@holyroodleague.org.  There has been some interest from some additional stakeholders in providing input to the Involving Edmonton Public Plan, so the City has created an electronic questionnaire.  The link to the questionnaire is www.surveymonkey.com/s/75StreetPublicInvolvement.

Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.

Contact president@holyroodleague.org with any questions or concerns.
